House
of Music, Aalborg, Denmark
This
multi-use facility is intended to anchor a revitalization of the
once industrial waterfront area in this northern Denmark city.
The dynamic architectural design was awarded to the architectural
firm of Coop Himmelb(l)au, Vienna, Austria in 2003.
The feature of the facility is a 1,200 seat concert
hall, equipped with adjustable acoustics features to allow the
acoustical environment to be optimized to a wide variety of musical
genres. The facility also includes practice, storage, and administrative
facilities for the Aalborg Symphony Orchestra, music practice
and teaching facilities for the local music conservatory, facilities
for the Design and Architecture School of the Aalborg University,
a 300-seat flat floor multi-purpose space, and public spaces.
The building is currently in final phases of
design and is scheduled for construction in 2006.
Eric Seifert served as project manager
for the project while at a previous firm and was responsible for
development and coordination of all acoustics and performance
systems design.
